Plans for the regeneration of Chislehurst library moved closer as the council selected a development partner.
Bromley Council announced on 12 January 2016 it had chosen Millngate Chislehurst to progress the redevelopment of the site.
The developer’s plans, subject to planning permission, would see a mixed-use development built on the site, with the scheme retaining the existing facade.
A modern purpose built library would be created on the first floor, with retail space on the ground floor and residential elements also a possibility.
"These proposals could well see another brand new purpose built library for our residents and although the proposals are still at an early stage, I am cautiously optimistic that a successful scheme will be achieved,” said Peter Morgan, executive councillor for renewal and recreation.
“As well as being an enormously positive sign for our library service, it is also a positive sign for Chislehurst as a town centre destination."
Millngate have already consulted residents about the proposal and a detailled planning application will be submitted later this year.
